Fairthorne Manor

On the 8th October, we went to Fairthorne Manor for a team building for IT. This was to help us with our communication skills assignment.

The day went well and was a great experience, but most of all it was a load of fun working in teams. We first had to make 3 teams of 10. For our first activity we done the low ropes, this was a good obsticle course as it made us think as a team to work our way throught the obsticle course. This was very fun laugh at eachother as we all fell off at one point or another. The funniest moment was the leap of faith were you had to grab hold of the rope and get over the pond of muddy water only some of us fell in.
Our second activity was jacobs ladder and the crates, jacobs ladder was good fun very hard work as a team of 3 getting up the top as everyone got higher up the gaps between the logs got bigger and bigger. The crates was also very goot the higher we got was 11 crates underneath us but after 7 crates it become harder to were it wasnt stable anymore.
Finally we got to raft building we had 30 minutes to build a raft out of materials provided, after we had built our raft it was time to put it to the test after we got it in the water all of our team got on and we were floating but after the instructor told us to stand up then it was went wrong people started falling off and then the raft was destroyed.
After we were getting out our teacher steph was laughing at us because we were wet and cold so 5 of us picked her up and pulled her into the water she wasnt pleased :) Overall the day was good fun and will do it agian.

Interpersonal Skills i used during the day.

·         Team work - We had to work as a team through out the day with the 3 different activitys we took part in. Within the team I had to co operate and help people through certain parts
·         Listen to other people - I had to listen to other peoples ideas in the team, We all had to make sure everyone new what they were doing and so that everybody could say what they thought
·         Appropriate humour - We all used humour during the day through our team, I took the mick out of each others and joked around while doing to make the day more endurable when everyone else is doing it as well.
·         Leadership - The leaders in the team were Me, Steve, Will, Kirby, David the rest worked well as we all have good ideas for raft building and low ropes
·         Co operation - I used co operation skill during the raft building activity and low ropes. We had to co operate with each other while building the raft to make it a team built and with more ideas gave us a better raft, also in the low rope i used co operation because we had to talk to eachother to help us all get across and through the course of low ropes.

I am hoping to achieve a Merit in both of my courses (IT and Art and Design) that I chose at Itchen this year. I believe to achieve these grades I need good attendance, very motivated and always keep to deadlines for immediate feedback. I would hopefully after 3 years be able to go to University or go to into a job that involves computers or technology base.
